A recent expansion in SRTS funding criteria to include high schools is an opportunity to reimagine how it gets delivered across municipalities. SRTS programming has historically focused on elementary and middle school students and their families. We anticipate the need to broaden the traditional SRTS framework in many municipalities across the country with an approach that could support high school students (adolescent teens). We invite attendees of this conference – those interested in safe transportation options, youth development, school planning, and municipal planning – to explore this issue with us. Our discussion could cover two main topics: (1) the role of adolescent youth development in SRTS program models and (2) adult supremacy and how we confront it when designing SRTS programs. At the end of our discussion, we hope attendees will think about the young people in their lives – and SRTS – through a new lens.
